HEALTHY ORGANIC FOOD
We would like to share a few
things about Organic foods and the importance of eating healthy Organic foods.
Let us start with what is Organic? We have been hearing this word for so long
in markets and other commercial areas. Organic foods are agricultural products
which has been produced without using pesticides and fertilizers. This way of
cultivating food supports the environment to nourish itself. Organic way of
cultivation does not use chemicals which depletes the soil fertility and harms
the eco-system. In this type of farming cow dung, vegetable waste and compost are used as manures. By consuming organic food
we are protected from harmful chemical agents. The picture below shows the way
organic farming is done.
Right soil cultivation :
Right soil cultivation include
preparing the soil for cultivation with proper tilling and digging. Proper
tilling and digging increases the soil fertility and helps in more production
of crops. Soil is one of the major
component in production of crops so that choosing the right soil is very
important.
Careful use of water resources:
Using certain methods of
irrigation helps in conserving water.one of such method is drip irrigation in
which the supply of water to the plants with the help of pipes.in this method
the supply of water can be regulated and supplied only when the plant need
it.since water is supplied drop by drop near the roots ,more than 50%of the
water is conserved.
Good animal husbandry:
The major aim of animal
husbandary is food production .animal husbandry is the management and care of
farm animals for profit .proper techniques of animal leads to a proper farming.
Using natural pesticides:
Organic farming practices have
advanced the use of non chemical means to control pests, as mentioned earlier. Through the use of
these natural pesticides there will be a healthy growth in plants.
Recycled crop wastes:
Recycling
of organic wastes such as crop residues, dung and urine from domesticated animals
and wastage from slaughter house, human excreta and sewage, bio mass of weeds,
organic wastes from fruit and vegetables production and household wastes,
sugarcane trash, oilcakes, press mud and fly ash from thermal power plants.
Material not suitable for direct application can better apply by composting and
vermicompost.
Green manures and
legumes:
In
agriculture "green manure" refers to crops which have already been
uprooted (and have often already been stuffed under the soil). The then dying
plants are of a type of cover crops
often grown primarily to add nutrients and organic
matters to the soil. Leguminous green manures such as clover and vetch contain nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacteria in root nodules that fix atmospheric nitrogen in a form that plants
can use. This performs the vital function of fertilization
Increased genetic diversity:
Genetic
diversity, the level of biodiversity, refers to the total number of genetic characteristics in the genetic makeup of a
species. It is distinguished from genetic
variability, which
describes the tendency of genetic characteristics to vary.
These are the
factors that helps in growing good organic crops.
InOrganic food
Inorganic means unnatural
products. crops that uses fertilizers and pesticides are considered to be
inorganic products. An inorganic compound is
a compound that is not considered "organic". Inorganic compounds are traditionally
viewed as being synthesized by the agency of geologicalsystems. In
contrast, organic compounds are found in biological systems
Inorganic products are not
healthy for our body .It uses chemical which are dangerous for our health. Inorganic
crops uses less manures and more fertilizers, using more fertilizers affects
the soil. when we uses fertilizers constantly
it affects the soil fertility, so that when. there is less soil fertility , it also affects
the growth of the plant.
Difference between organic and inorganic crops
The picture
below shows the difference between organic and inorganic farming.
